To Study Abroad...

Two weeks from today, I'll be on a plane on my way to Frankfurt, Germany, en route to the Arlanda Airport in Sweden! I'll be spending the next sixth months studying in Uppsala, one of Sweden's main cities about 70 km north of Stockholm. You can see a map here: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl. Classes start on Monday the 16th, and end in early June. I don't have my full course schedule set yet, but I do know I'll be taking a history of biology course about Carolus Linneas and a basic Swedish course. I'll be living in an apartment complex called Kantornsgatan with a mix of other international students and Swedish students. As for everything else, I guess I'll figure it out when I get there.

Right now I'm busy cleaning out my room, ordering kroner at the bank, and trying to learn some Swedish. We have a friend from Denmark staying with us at the moment, Peter, who Jeffrey knows through telemark racing; he's teaching me how to count tonight. I've started a packing list; I feel like this is a little more complicated than the ski races I used to go to.

For Christmas I got a Lonely Planet travel guide, a Swedish phrase book, and a Swedish-English dictionary. I've read bits of all of them, and my next post will be all of my new Sweden trivia.

Until then, hej då! (pronounced hey doe, which means goodbye).
